How does the Chinese regime present China to the world? Full of the so-called “positive energy,” including: Flashy GDP figures; Outstanding economic reports; Rapid modern urbanization brings prosperity; Cutting-edge technology achievements; Beautiful nature and environment; Happy and wealthy Chinese; And it would be a miss without mentioning the anti-American, anti-capitalism propaganda. - #SpotlightOnChina #China #ChinaInsights
China's once-hot housing market has taken an unusual turn this summer, as evidenced by the changes in the land market. "Land sale" is a common expression in China. Seminar on Involution: In 2020, Chinese citizens widely popularized a once-obscure academic term: neijuan 内卷, or involution.Frustrated by never-ending competition over limited opportunities and working lives with little perceivable value, people from all walks of life interpreted the concept according to the various pressures in their own lives. From university students to parents, neijuan resonated with a nation contending with decelerating economic growth and massive inequalities. What exactly is involution, and how might we go about responding to the larger issues behind the buzzword? Our four guest speakers, Xiang Biao 项飙 （Professor of Social Anthropology at Oxford University，director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology），Guan Qingyou 管清友 （a Chinese economist），Liu Yunshan 刘云杉 (Professor and Vice Dean at Peking University’s Graduate School of Education)，and Zheng Qiong 郑琼 （a documentary film director best known for ‘’A Way Out‘’）will give their individual answers.
