Sky News host Chris Kenny says there is “a real racism row at Buckingham Palace”. It comes after the late Queen’s lady-in-waiting Susan Hussey asked a guest at the palace where her people were from.
Prince William’s godmother Lady Susan Hussey has resigned as a Royal aide after repeatedly asking a black British head of a charity where she was “really” from. Lady Hussey, who was lady-in-waiting to the late Queen Elizabeth, questioned Ngoza Fulani about her background at a charity event at Buckingham Palace. When the charity head explained she was British, Lady Hussey asked where her “people” were from and where she was “really” from. She has since apologised for the comments. The Palace described the comments as “unacceptable and deeply regrettable”. A spokesperson for Prince William said: "Racism has no place in our society. The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect”. Lady Hussey, who is 83, was a close confidante of the late Queen and accompanied her at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh. The late Queen Elizabeth's lady-in-waiting Lady Susan Hussey has resigned after she repeatedly asked a black British charity boss where she was from in an exchange perceived as racist. Ngozi Fulani was questioned about her background at a charity event held at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday which celebrated campaigners who work to eradicate violence against women. Buckingham Palace said in a statement it’s taking the incident “extremely seriously” and has “investigated immediately to establish the full details”.
In an era of “firsts”, this would have been one of the more momentous for the new King. “My wife and I are delighted to welcome you to Buckingham Palace,” he told the visiting South African president, as he took on the most significant of diplomatic duties from his mother in the first state visit of his reign. In a glowing speech ahead of a Buckingham Palace banquet paying tribute to both the late Queen Elizabeth II and her friendship with Nelson Mandela, he called the evening “particularly moving and special” for celebrating a country which has "always been part of my life”. Thanks to his mother’s famous pledge to dedicate her life to service on her 21st birthday in South Africa, he said, it gave her and now him “great pleasure” to host a succession of its presidents. Addressing President Ramaphosa, who beamed at points throughout, the King told him: “During one of my own visits to South Africa, in 1997, President Mandela told me that he had conferred on my mother a special name – Motlalepula, meaning “to come with rain”. A senior royal aide has resigned after she allegedly asked a guest at Buckingham Palace where she was “really from”.
What is life like in Buckingham Palace? That continues to be a bit of a mystery. As a royal residence and an official state building, Buckingham Palace operates in both private and public spheres. Buckingham Palace on the inside contains rooms designated for official purposes, with private apartments nearby for the queen and members of her family. Living and working in Buckingham Palace comes with a variety of perks - staff enjoy everything from medical services to exercise facilities. Some of the challenges of the aging structure, including a leaking roof and falling detritus, may not seem like the ideal living situation, but as part of Buckingham Palace's history, these defects could just be considered part of the building's charm. The size and grandeur of Buckingham Palace exceeds general knowledge, and maybe even expectation, giving individuals living in Buckingham Palace access to much more than meets the eye. #BuckinghamPalace #BritishHistory #WeirdHistory

An animated backwards look at the changing face of Buckingham Palace through hundreds of years! "Originally known as Buckingham House, the building at the core of today's palace was a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 on a site that had been in private ownership for at least 150 years. It was acquired by King George III in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte and became known as The Queen's House. During the 19th century it was enlarged, principally by architects John Nash and Edward Blore, who constructed three wings around a central courtyard. Buckingham Palace became the London residence of the British monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837." Credits to the Image Owners Featured.
